Best practice in safety management requires the application of performance measures... leading and trailing indicators of how well the organization's safety effort is working.
Company specific indicators of performance are identified and used as the basis for scoring safety performance. The safety scorecard compiles the results of the company's performance on a regular basis. The scores help to highlight potential problems that may need more focused attention. The scores also help to show trending for strong performance in specific categories and/or departments.
The scorecard is often used as a tool for review at safety leadership meetings and discussed with all personnel during daily start-up meetings. The scorecard dovetails with other elements of the Access Safety program including routine inspection findings, training completion and other safety initiatives.
